Most overrated things about Glenview

Hi all, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Median household income is $138,758, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $2,027/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I'm a physical therapist and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Oak Park area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Seattle about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 38, moved here 4 years ago from LA. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The food scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for singles. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Seattle it's average.

I've lived in East for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The housing market scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
