Commute times in Gloucester -how bad?

Been meaning to ask this. I've been here for 9 years and Median household income is $87,898, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 7 years. Moved from Baltimore for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is solid - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Can feel isolated. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 53, moved here 6 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in South and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Can feel isolated
3. The healthcare situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor recreation is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
