I grew up here but left for a while. You can expect to pay around $1,395 for rent here. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I overthinking this? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely solid and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (South) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 14 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
