Living in Golden Hills -the reality

Hey folks, I've been here for 12 years and Poverty rate is 9.6%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 10,445 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Does this match your experience? TIA!

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 32, moved here 11 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in North and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The dating scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
