Rent vs buy in Goldenrod -what makes sense?

Hi all, I'm a college student here and Median household income is $62,410, which feels about average for the area. The unemployment rate is 7.6%, which is concerning. You can expect to pay around $1,673 for rent here. Homes are going for about $332,700 on average. Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Pros:
- Close to nature
- Low taxes
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Rising rent prices
- Limited nightlife
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Not enough green space
Has anyone dealt with this? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Oak Park area are solid. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
