Alright, I'm a college student here and Homes are going for about $173,700 on average. Poverty rate is 15.6%, which is higher than I expected. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Worth the trade-offs?

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely tough and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The safety is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Lakewood area are improving. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Downtown for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The walkability scene is tough
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The pet-friendliness is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The school system is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Chicago it's surprisingly good.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.
