Random thought, I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Good Hope sits at 245.8 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 5.9%, which is about average. Poverty rate is 20.2%, which is higher than I expected. Rent is about $1,451/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Has anyone dealt with this?

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 48, moved here 5 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in East and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Close to major attractions
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Summers can be brutally hot
3. The healthcare situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cultural scene is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in East area are challenging. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Eastside for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The dating scene scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..
