First post here. I'm a college student here and Median household income is $101,814, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 4.5%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Does this match your experience? The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like seafood.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
