Moving to Goodyear -what should I know?

Hey, Has anyone dealt with this? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Phoenix about 4 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is solid.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 9 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 1 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Uptown area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in East for 8 years. Moved from Nashville for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is decent - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Urban sprawl is real. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
