Goose Creek vs Chicago -which is better?

Been meaning to ask this. You can expect to pay around $1,611 for rent here. Average temperature is around 67--F, so the weather is moderate. Homes are going for about $279,500 on average. Poverty rate is 4.6%, which is pretty low. It's a a smaller city city with about 46,964 people. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Growing food scene
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools

Cons:
- Boring for young people
- Poor road conditions
- Homelessness issues downtown
The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Portland about 7 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in South area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 47, moved here 10 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The school system situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for singles. decent vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.
