Hi all, I'm a teacher here and Poverty rate is 35.7%, which is higher than I expected. Median household income is $27,299, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Anyone in a similar situation?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Charlotte about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Charlotte about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.
