Hey everyone, Poverty rate is 8.6%, which is pretty low. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Let me know your thoughts. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely decent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Highland) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from San Diego about 3 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is challenging.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you value job market, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.
