Why I chose Grand Haven over bigger cities

My partner and I are The median home value here is around $242,400, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 10,966 people. With a population of 10,966, Grand Haven is a small town. Poverty rate is 8.0%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Low taxes
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Boring for young people
- Limited cultural events
- Homelessness issues downtown
Is this normal for Grand Haven? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
