Unpopular opinion about Grand Junction

First post here. I work in automotive and Homes are going for about $358,300 on average. It's a a smaller city city with about 67,027 people. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Charlotte about 10 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited public transit options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much reasonable but now it's excellent.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Bought a house here in 2023 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
