Hello, Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 69°F, so the weather is moderate. The median home value here is around $272,200, which seems about average. Median household income is $78,889, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $272,200 on average. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What would you do? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The traffic is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 15 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor recreation is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.
