Anyone work in healthcare in Grand Rapids?

Hey folks, My partner and I are Rent is about $1,191/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider — Grand Rapids sits at 637.3 per 100K. Homes are going for about $225,500 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,191 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Any advice would be great. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 53, moved here 8 years ago from New York. I've lived in Westside and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The dating scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The healthcare is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..
