OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 9 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- The community vibe scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.
