The median home value here is around $171,200, which is actually reasonable.

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 5 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely underrated and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (West) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in engineering. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The housing market is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is improving.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
