Longtime lurker here, I'm a remote worker and Poverty rate is 5.2%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Would love some local perspective. Any help is appreciated. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 28, moved here 2 years ago from LA. I've lived in Downtown and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The community vibe situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Nashville about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Definitely worth checking out..
