Couple moving to Granite City from out of state

Been meaning to ask this. Just moved here 9 months ago and Rent is about $761/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 26,670 people. Household incomes average around $60,490 in Granite City. Poverty rate is 11.2%, which is around average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Would love some local perspective. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I work in construction here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is average. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
