I relocated for work and Median household income is $60,490, which feels about average for the area. The median home value here is around $99,800, which is actually reasonable. It's a a smaller city city with about 26,670 people. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 11.2%, which is around average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks for reading. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 4 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The safety is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Westside area are solid. Kids love it here.

I've been here 10 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is challenging.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Pine Hills for 4 years. Moved from Minneapolis for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Pine Hills schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Homeless population growing downtown. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.
No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Boston it's decent.
