Working remotely from Granite City

It's a a smaller city city with about 26,670 people. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I work in hospitality here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is better than expected. Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Fairview area are excellent. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 30, moved here 9 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Westside and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The pet-friendliness situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much competitive but now it's pretty good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth checking out..

Bought a house here in 2020 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 13 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Happy to answer more specific questions..
