Hi all, The unemployment rate is 3.5%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,160/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. The median home value here is around $364,200, which seems about average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I overthinking this? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 45, moved here 9 years ago from Boston. I've lived in East and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The cultural scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely underrated and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Came here for retirement and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor recreation is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely average and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (North) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

I'm a contractor and I've found the quality of life is solid. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.
