Curious what people think. Anyone in a similar situation? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Bought a house here in 2015 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The weather is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The cultural scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in retail here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is challenging. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The community vibe scene is decent
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a real estate agent, 40, moved here 10 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Downtown and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The cultural scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for couples. decent vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely tough and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Highland) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.
