Military spouse here. Homes are going for about $155,200 on average. The median home value here is around $155,200, which is actually reasonable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Anyone in a similar situation? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Westside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The pet-friendliness scene is decent
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Sunset area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 14 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Highland for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- The traffic scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Denver it's decent.
