Raising a family in Grayson -thoughts?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm originally from Chicago and With a population of 4,699, Grayson is a small town. The median home value here is around $457,000, which is pretty steep. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Thanks for reading. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I work in retail here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is tough. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Minneapolis about 8 years ago. The main reasons were family and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 50, moved here 13 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Pine Hills and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited shopping options
3. The nightlife situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
