Curious what people think. Household incomes average around $137,095 in Great Neck. Crime rate is something to consider -Great Neck sits at 26.2 per 100K. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to.
Pros:
- Good job market
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons:
- Hot summers
- Sprawl everywhere
- Homelessness issues downtown
What neighborhoods would you suggest? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Miami it's excellent.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Charlotte it's tough.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Portland about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in North for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The food scene scene is average
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.
