Great Neck job market vs Indianapolis

Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 6.3%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $953,400, which is pretty steep. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. What are your go-to spots? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Minneapolis it's tough.

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 28, moved here 3 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The housing market situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for young professionals. tough vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Raleigh it's underrated.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Uptown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
