I've lived in Pine Hills for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- The traffic scene is improving
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 47, moved here 7 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Springfield and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited shopping options
3. The job market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$140K here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Nashville about 6 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..
