How are the schools in Greenbelt?

Hi all, My family moved here when I was a kid. Rent is about $1,807/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $258,600 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cheers. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Riverside side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 38, moved here 10 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Downtown and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The safety situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for couples. solid vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $50K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Riverside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much pricey but now it's decent.

I work in retail here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is underrated. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
