Moving from Chicago to Greenbelt next month

Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cheers. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Chicago about 2 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
