Best kept secrets of Greenfield, WI

Curious what people think. Crime rate is something to consider -Greenfield sits at 171.2 per 100K. With a population of 37,361, Greenfield is a smaller city. Household incomes average around $69,016 in Greenfield. Median household income is $69,016, which feels about average for the area. The median home value here is around $247,800, which is actually reasonable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Not enough green space
Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 6 years. Moved from Charlotte for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Atlanta it's average.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely challenging and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Westside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 1 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for school and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor recreation is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Riverside for 11 years. Moved from Raleigh for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Road conditions need improvement. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 36, moved here 10 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Highland and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The cultural scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
