So, I'm a college student here and Poverty rate is 6.4%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What would you do? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Austin about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much manageable but now it's surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Austin about 4 years ago. The main reasons were family and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Meadowbrook for 5 years. Moved from San Francisco for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Far from beaches/mountains. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Springfield area are pretty good. Kids love it here.
