Remote worker thinking about Greenville CDP (Westchester County)

Longtime lurker here, I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Greenville CDP (Westchester County) sits at 485.5 per 100K. Household incomes average around $157,159 in Greenville CDP (Westchester County). The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I wrong here? The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely average and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in engineering here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is average. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Westside for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The nightlife scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 2 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Road conditions need improvement. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much growing but now it's better than expected.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Dallas about 5 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Boston it's average.
