Considering Greenville vs Portland -help me decide

Longtime lurker here, You can expect to pay around $724 for rent here. Household incomes average around $52,727 in Greenville. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Should I be concerned? Cheers. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Westside for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The dating scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from LA about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 5 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
