Best areas to explore in Greenville?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Rent is about $824/month for a decent place. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Phoenix it's underrated.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in healthcare here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely challenging and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 9 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 42, moved here 7 years ago from Austin. I've lived in North and Riverside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for singles. solid vibes, walkable.
- Riverside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
