Greenville is underrated, change my mind

Longtime lurker here, With a population of 88,540, Greenville is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 5.8%, which is about average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Does this match your experience? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 5 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely average and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (East) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Chicago about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is underrated.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in North for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The cultural scene scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Uptown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- The safety scene is solid

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been here 10 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is excellent.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The walkability is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Denver it's challenging.
