Hey everyone, I'm retired and Homes are going for about $98,200 on average. Rent is about $616/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

I'm a lawyer and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in North for 15 years. Moved from Charlotte for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is improving - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Far from beaches/mountains. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
