Been meaning to ask this. I'm originally from Houston and The unemployment rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. It's a a smaller city city with about 29,936 people. The median home value here is around $197,400, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $1,274/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thoughts? TIA! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Sunset area are challenging. Kids love it here.

I've been here 8 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the West side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.
