What's it really like living in Greenville?

Hey folks, We're a young couple and Median household income is $110,103, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a small town city with about 12,911 people. The unemployment rate is 1.0%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Poor road conditions
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
Should I be concerned? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Used to live on the North side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely average and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Uptown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..
