Honest thoughts on life in Greenwood

Hey everyone, I'm retired and Homes are going for about $248,700 on average. Household incomes average around $78,765 in Greenwood. Poverty rate is 5.3%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Nice parks and trails
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
- Far from major airports
Would love some local perspective. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 43, moved here 15 years ago from Houston. I've lived in The Heights and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The walkability situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
