What to expect moving to Greenwood?

Longtime lurker here, I'm a teacher here and Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a smaller city city with about 64,237 people. The median home value here is around $248,700, which is actually reasonable. Crime rate is something to consider -Greenwood sits at 162.2 per 100K. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I wrong here? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 8 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.
