Anyone else feel this way? I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Median household income is $104,638, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $263,300, which seems about average. Household incomes average around $104,638 in Greenwood. Rent is about $1,679/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from New York about 9 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is tough.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
