Moving to Greenwood for work -advice?

Hey, I'm a 51-year-old contractor and Crime rate is something to consider -Greenwood sits at 1,238.3 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Would love some local perspective. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from San Diego about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Bought a house here in 2015 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much stable but now it's tough.

The food scene here is excellent. Tons of great Mediterranean places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- The public transit scene is tough

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 1 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely excellent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
