Career opportunities in Gresham, OR

Alright, I relocated for work and Crime rate is something to consider -Gresham sits at 442.7 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Is this normal for Gresham? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 3 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Chicago about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 14 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
