First post here. I grew up here but left for a while. The median home value here is around $242,600, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 17,468, Gretna is a small town. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 10 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in North for 11 years. Moved from Dallas for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is improving - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Limited entertainment options. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Raleigh about 6 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..
