Random thought, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and You can expect to pay around $1,017 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 17,468 people. Poverty rate is 20.5%, which is higher than I expected. Homes are going for about $242,600 on average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Has anyone dealt with this? Appreciate any input. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely decent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (The Heights) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Chicago about 3 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for family and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The housing market is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
