Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Tampa about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Cedar Grove. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in construction. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The walkability scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (The Heights) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
