Been meaning to ask this. Rent is about $1,247/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 70--F, so the weather is moderate. You can expect to pay around $1,247 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Am I wrong here? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.
