Moving to Guayama zona urbana with kids -good idea?
Hey everyone, Poverty rate is 44.4%, which is higher than I expected. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I wrong here? The weather takes some getting used to.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The traffic is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The cost of living is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 13 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 33, moved here 12 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Pine Hills and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The walkability situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, No regrets on my end..
